The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has planted the first tree at the 2300 hectares Urhonigbe Rubber Plantation being operated by the Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited (RENL), which has committed pledged N5.1 billion for the development.

The state governor said this on Wednesday during the tree planting exercise at the site of the plantation in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, noting that he intends for the state to become the leader in cocoa, rubber and oil palm production in Nigeria.

He assured that roads in the area will be constructed, adding that a Police post will be set up in the area very soon to ensure the security of life and property.

The redevelopment of the plantation adds to the growing involvement of the private sector in the development of the state’s economy, as other agribusinesses in the state have also expanded.
