BREAKING: Governor Okpebholo Suspends Revenue Collection in Edo State with Immediate Effect, Orders Arrest of Violators

In a bold move aimed at addressing revenue collection concerns, newly sworn-in Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collection activities across the state. This suspension includes, but is not limited to, revenue collection at motor parks and other public spaces. The order takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hon. Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo’s decision is a response to ongoing concerns about the manner in which revenue is being collected. The Governor emphasized that no one is authorized to collect any form of revenue on behalf of the state government until the issue is thoroughly reviewed.

Governor Okpebholo has also directed the State Commissioner of Police to ensure that anyone found flouting this directive is immediately arrested. The Governor’s order is clear: anyone attempting to collect revenues during this suspension will face legal consequences.

In a press release dated November 13, 2024:

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered for the immediate and indefinite suspension of collection of all revenues in Edo, especially in motor parks and others, until further notice

Governor Okpebholo has also ordered the State Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone who flouts the order.

The Governor said he will review the issues surrounding the collections soon and decide on the way forward.

“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested.

“The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts the order and collects any kind of revenues on behalf of the State Government.

“The Governor will soon  address the issues and concerns raised. He will issue new directives soon. Until then, no one is authorised to collect revenues on behalf of the State Government.”
