Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Chief Godwins Marvellous Omobayo, undertook his inaugural official duty on Monday, representing Governor Godwin Obaseki at the groundbreaking ceremony for a one-megawatt solar power project aimed at enhancing electricity supply at the Nigerian Army Military Hospital in Benin.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor Omobayo emphasized the significance of the project, stressing the need for its timely and diligent execution to ensure prompt delivery. He highlighted the crucial role of electricity in the hospital’s operations, particularly for sustaining medical equipment and facilities, including the mortuary, which require continuous power supply.
“It’s a moment of pride for me to embark on my first official engagement as Deputy Governor, especially in a healthcare setting,” expressed Omobayo. “This project holds immense importance, and its placement within a healthcare facility resonates deeply with me. I commend the foresight behind this initiative.”
Acknowledging the administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure across the state, Omobayo emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between the state government and various stakeholders to replicate similar projects across all local government areas.
“The Governor has demonstrated exceptional vision in prioritizing healthcare infrastructure,” remarked Omobayo. “We must now explore avenues to extend such initiatives to every corner of the state, ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services.”
In his address, Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Enaholo Ojiefo, highlighted the collaborative nature of the project between the Edo State Government and the Military. He underscored the significance of providing consistent electricity to healthcare facilities, particularly for essential services like maternal care.
“The collaboration between the state government and the Military underscores our commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure,” stated Ojiefo. “This project aligns with our goal of ensuring seamless access to healthcare services for all residents, including pregnant women and vulnerable populations.”
Brigadier General Olubunmi Aburime, Director of the Military Hospital Benin, emphasized the hospital’s vital role in serving both military personnel and civilians in the region. He expressed appreciation for the state government’s support in enhancing the hospital’s operational capabilities.
Contractor Ike Nnah of Mykrogrid outlined the project’s timeline and scope, detailing plans for the installation of approximately 2,000 solar panels and associated infrastructure. He highlighted the project’s potential to significantly augment the hospital’s energy capacity and reduce operational costs.
