In a bid to foster stronger ties with the Muslim community in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki recently marked the conclusion of Ramadan by celebrating Eid-El Fitr alongside local Muslims.
The event, held at the Government House in Benin City, underscored Obaseki’s commitment to collaborative efforts and increased support for the Muslim populace.
Accompanied by key government officials including the Edo State Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, and Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, Governor Obaseki emphasized the significance of cooperation with religious leaders in addressing societal challenges swiftly.
Recognizing the pivotal role of religious bodies in providing solace to citizens, Obaseki reaffirmed the government’s dedication to alleviating hardships, particularly amidst prevailing economic difficulties.
Acknowledging the invaluable contributions of the Muslim community to the state’s progress over the past seven and a half years, Governor Obaseki expressed gratitude for their steadfast support in maintaining peace and fostering unity. He lauded their role in reshaping Edo’s narrative, transforming it into a destination for opportunities rather than a departure point for youth seeking greener pastures elsewhere.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements in redirecting Edo’s trajectory, Obaseki stressed the need for continuity and sustainability of ongoing projects. He hinted at plans to introduce his successor to ensure a seamless transition and build upon the foundation laid during his tenure.
The Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Fatai Enabulele, commended Governor Obaseki’s inclusive governance approach and developmental strides across various sectors.
He pledged the Muslim community’s unwavering support towards ensuring the successful completion of ongoing initiatives and the continued progress of the state.
