The Edo Government has trained another batch of 1,200 primary school teachers in digital pedagogy as part of the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) initiative. The government has pledged to maintain the improvements made in the education sector as a result of the program.

The process of integrating all state-owned primary and junior secondary school teachers into the EdoBEST program was completed during the 10-day Induction Training led by the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo SUBEB) at Edo State University, Iyamho.

Speaking to journalists at the graduation ceremony, Mrs. Ozavize E. Salami, Executive Chairman of Edo SUBEB, stated that the state’s government is devoted to the professional growth of teachers, noting that more than 16,500 had received training since the inception of the EdoBEST program in  April 2018.

She states, “This training, which served over 1,200 digital teachers, is noteworthy because it graduated the last group in a training cycle that began in 2018 with the launch of the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) program by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State.

“With the help of this training, Edo State, under Governor Obaseki administration has trained 16,500 teachers since 2018″ (EdoBEST induction training alone). Additionally, all 307 junior secondary schools have been enrolled in the program, and the State has completely disarticulated junior secondary schools. As a result, all 1,024 primary and progressive schools—including those in remote, riverine, and hard-to-reach areas—are now completely integrated into the program.”

“Presently, all basic education teacher in the state are now digital and have electronic tablet. All 3,000 EdoSTAR teaching fellows for basic education have also been trained and sent to schools all around the state, she continued.

Salami stated, “At the training conclusion event, 75 field officers were certified as EdoBEST training facilitators for the sustainability of the program after completing a series of capacity-building sessions and serving as facilitators at actual EdoBEST training. These are the government employees who will continue to assist the teachers as they perform their duties on a daily basis by coaching, mentoring, and raising pertinent issues.
