Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, will host a two-day conference on human capital development for his counterparts in the South-South zone (HCD).

According to a statement from Violet Obiokoro, managing director of the Edo State Skills Development Agency and state focal person for HCD, the two-day conference will take place from Tuesday, January 17, to Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

She stated, “His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, will welcome Governors from the South-South for a two-day Regional Conference on Human Capital Development (HCD)” (Edo 2023).

The goal of the event, which takes place at the New Festival Hall, Government House, in Benin City, is to increase human capital investments as a means of reducing poverty and extending life expectancy. The conference will focus on three themes: labor force participation, education, and  health and nutrition.

She claims, the conference, with the topic “Accelerating Human Capital Development in the South-South Region of Nigeria,” will give the Governor Obaseki-led administration a chance to showcase the outcomes of its ongoing investments in human capital development over the previous six years.

In recognition of the importance of addressing poverty and other socioeconomic issues to promote sustainable growth and improve life expectancy in the nation, the Federal Government of Nigeria introduced the Nigerian Human Capital Development Programme in 2018.
