The victims of the Igueben train station kidnapping who were eventually rescued have spoken about their experience with the kidnappers and applauded the state government for facilitating their safe return to their families.
The rescued victims said that a combined team of security operatives oversaw the operation when speaking with journalists at the Police Cottage Hospital, where they were brought for examinations and rehabilitation following their ordeal.
Mr. Christian Iyere, one of the abducted victims, thanked the Edo State Government and all the security agencies for working together to rescue them.
“We thank the state administration and each and every security agency that contributed to our rescue. It was difficult to survive in captivity for eight days.
Aguele Beatrice, another victim who was rescued along with 11 others, praised the security team.
“The security team pulled us out of the forest. The rescue effort came at the perfect time because it saved our lives. Additionally, it has made sure that our families and loved ones are trauma-free, she added.
In order to locate and apprehend the kidnappers in the forest and rescue the victims, the Edo State Government supported a joint security team in the state that includes members of the Police, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and the Edo State Security Network, among others.
Two of the hostages are still being held by the escaping kidnappers after the raid of their camp by security operatives.
