The Edo State Government has expressed its condolences to the family of DSP Michael Adams, who died while helping to rescue some of the victims of a kidnapping incident at Igueben Local Government Area of the state.

When visiting the late DSP Adams’ residence on Airport Road in Benin City with other senior government officials and security personnel, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu offered his condolences to the family and expressed his regret over the terrible events.

He said that the late DSP Adams was a brave officer whose actions merit praise and emulation.

“All of heads of the security agencies are present. We are in mourning. He left a family behind, and we must join them in their sorrow and offer our sympathies. When we lose brave soldiers like this, it causes a big problem for us because we need a lot of these brave officers alive to combat insecurity, he said. As a result, the loss affects all of us, not just the family.

He continued, “It’s really regrettable that we lost him, but what is important is that he was a gallant officer who undertook a successful mission,”   Fortunately, they were able to rescue the victims alive because the mission was successful.

Spending over 5 days in the bush in order to rescue victims is not typical. Clearly, such an officer merits a posthumous medal.

Shaibu added that the ongoing effort to rescue the abducted individuals is making significant strides.

“The officer and several men had been in the bush. More of these victims are being rescued as they continue to rescue people. In addition to the magistrate, two other people have been saved. They are really seeing benefits from their efforts, and I must praise them for what they have been doing.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Adamu Dankwara added that Adams did not die in a shoot-out as had been rumoured.

He added, “The rescue of the magistrate and other victims led to him feeling unwell along the way of the operation.  He wasn’t shot at.

The deceased’s older brother, Ebi Naingba, responded on behalf of the family, thanking the state government and other security chiefs and pleading with them to help with the maintenance and education of the children DSP Adam left behind.
