Edo State is set to add an additional 50MW through an Independent Power Project (IPP) by Duport Midstream at its Energy Park in Egbokor, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, contributing to what is fast becoming a boom in energy options amid a national energy crisis.
The 50MW plant is to provide steady electricity to the 10,000 barrels per day modular refinery at Duport Midstream Company Limited, which has completed its energy park.
Additionally, it has a Tier-4 Data Center All-in-One facility, a 10 million scf Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) plant, and a 60 million standard cubic feet (scf) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processing plant.
The addition of the 50 MW IPP brings Edo State’s total energy pool to 744 MW, which also includes the 461 MW Azura Power IPP, which is connected to the National Grid; the 78 MW plant at BUA, which powers two lines of the company’s 6 MTPA plant; and the 95 MW Ossiomo Power IPP, which is connected to goverment establishments, streetlights, and industrial clusters in Benin city.
The other facility is the 60MW IPP at the Dangote Cement factory in Okpella, which powers the company’s 6mtpa factory.
With a focus on attracting investments in the manufacturing and processing sectors, Edo State is being repositioned to become Nigeria’s top industrial powerhouse. The state has received close to $2 billion in investment over the previous six years under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the fields of agriculture, energy, food processing, light manufacturing, forestry, and technology.
As the state’s energy wattage rises, it is quickly becoming into a new refuge for companies looking for reliable electricity to grow their operations, particularly as it boosts the country’s largest onshore gas resources.
