The ongoing Edo Resident Identity Card initiative, according to Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki, would give information to improve the design and implementation of government programs and projects, assuring equal service distribution to all areas in the state.

Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Obaseki said that the government will be able to expedite the delivery of programs for health, education, and other social services to the population thanks to the data gathered through the project.

He stated, “We are currently rolling out the Edo Resident Identity Card, which will provide data of citizens to make it easier for government to plan and provide services across the state.”

“With the card linked to the National Identity card, not only will we have data on residents and their fundamental demographics, but we will also be able to expedite delivery of programs spanning health, education, and other social services to the people,” the governor continued.

The governor reaffirmed the government’s dedication to putting Edo on a course toward sustainable growth and development, saying, “The creation of the Edo State 30-year development plan, Benin Urban Plan, and Edo Regional Plans are progressing well.

He said, “The launch of the tourism master plan has been favorably accepted by industry players, and we are truly thrilled with the arrival of big-ticket investors in the state’s creative and entertainment industries. The Benin Cultural District, which is a key component of the tourism masterplan, is now being built. In order to make Edo a major destination for world culture and tourism in the coming year and beyond, we have secured the backing of foreign partners for the cultural district and archaeological work.”
