According to the Edo State Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, security operatives have arrested one of the suspected kidnappers involved in the kidnapping of 32 passengers at the Igueben train station in the Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.

At a press briefing in Benin City, the commissioner made this statement and said that one of the 32 people attacked at the train station has managed to escape the kidnappers.

“After 32 people were abducted, the Police, vigilantes, and neighborhood hunters leapt into action, searching the bushes nearby,” he claimed. One of the abducted victims was able to escape.

Nehikhare stated, “The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, visited the scene of the attack for on-the-spot assessment and was informed that one of the suspects was arrested and he has been assisting the police with the investigation to arrest other fleeing members of the kidnapping gang.

“We commend the Police and other security authorities for responding to the security brief so quickly. We are grateful for the assistance provided by the neighborhood hunters and members of the Edo State Security Network in carrying out this operation. In a relatively short period of time, success was achieved thanks to this synergy.

“We sincerely hope that this is the last time we will have such an attack on government property, particularly train stations in Edo State. Our security system responded to the situation quickly, and we extend our sympathies to the victims’ families. We will provide the security forces, neighborhood watch groups, and hunters who are looking for these kidnappers all the support they need, he added.
