The conduct of some pretenders jostling for political power in Edo State has left the comical to the ridiculous. Recall that in the wake of the 2016 elections, these bunch who have earned the not too enviable alias of professional contestants contested the election on various platforms and at different stages.
The intriguing part is that a common denominator to undermine the towering status of the incumbent was the accusation that he will be unduly influenced by the then Governor and effectively handing him a third term. The more discerning teeming supporters convinced with the issue based campaigns and the clean cut social contract which has been largely fulfilled voted enmass for the now celebrated ‘wake and see Governor’.
Perhaps disappointed that the Governor being clad in nobility did not lead their predicted stooge hood, the quad called a joint press conference to promote their “yes sir” credentials. The vigorous attempt to impress the emerging godfather of their preparedness to kowtow and be subservient becomes particularly nauseating when viewed from their hitherto condemnation of same. From the cashier General to the Local General. From the failed skin bleaching pensioner to the egoistic serial defector. They seem to be saying that emperor kindly send me to Osadebey Avenue and you are sure the defacto Governor. Going back to eat your poo? Squaring up to do what you vehemently condemned in the wake of the last election.
What the quads don’t know is that Edo people and politicians as well have been liberated by deliberate and consistent light showing that they will repel any credentials less than Plato’s philosopher King. The people are content yet with result driven Governor and they are advised to go and upgrade their credentials for the next 4 years to be qualified to competitively contest in 2024.
