…Charges School Heads on Government’s Expectations
The Edo State Commissioner of Education Dr Christopher Adesotu, in his usual zeal and effort in ensuring good and quality education for the youths and children who he believes are the leaders of tomorrow, commences unscheduled visit to schools in the state yesterday. The Commissioner maintained that Edo State children deserves, and must be given the best as far as qualitative and functional Education is concerned.
In his ongoing school inspection tour, the Commissioner of Education Dr Adesotu who was speaking while at Anglican Girls Grammar School in Oredo Local Government Area, emphasized the importance of teachers in equiping and building up responsible citizens and individuals to shape development of the society. He also stressed at the need for teachers to be seen as role models to their students. According to him, “teachers should live an exemplary life as the children always look up and copy from them.”
The Education commissioner who scrutinized the attendance record, diaries and lesson notes of the teachers, noted with satisfaction the clarity with which they were recorded as he meticulously checked each lesson note, comparing it with the diaries and further engaging the teachers as regards the technicalities with which they carry out their duties.
Addressing the teachers afterwards, the Honourable Commissioner commended the principal of the school Mrs Mercy Ekhator for handling the school appropriately as the up to date attendance record shows that she is on her toes. He further encouraged the teachers to maintain the zeal and passion they had exhibited, demanding that they pay special attention to the SS3 students and handle them well in preparation for their final examination.
He further encouraged the corp members and N-Power teachers serving in the school to live up to their responsibilities as a stepping stone towards becoming great individuals and good citizens of Nigeria.
Responding, the teachers who expressed confidence in their capabilities assured the Commissioner that they would leave no stone unturned in other to turn out well groomed children. They however reiterated their love and desire to work hard and keep the fire burning in the dissemination of knowledge.
